Detailed breakdown of your journey
Your safari begins with pickup from your Arusha hotel at 8:00 AM. Meet your private guide and depart for Tarangire National Park, approximately a 2-hour drive through picturesque Maasai countryside. Upon arrival, enjoy a full afternoon game drive through Tarangire's legendary baobab-dotted landscape. The park is famous for its massive elephant herds — sometimes over 300 individuals — as well as lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras, and over 500 bird species. The Tarangire River attracts wildlife year-round, making it an excellent dry-season destination. Break for a bush picnic lunch overlooking the river before continuing your game drive. As the golden light fades, check into Sangaiwe Tented Lodge for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, depart Tarangire and drive towards the Serengeti via the Lake Manyara area and the Ngorongoro Highlands. The drive itself is a scenic highlight, with views of the Great Rift Valley escarpment and the lush highland farming villages. Stop for lunch at a lodge with panoramic views before descending into the Serengeti ecosystem. Enter through the Naabi Hill Gate and begin your first Serengeti game drive en route to central Serengeti. Spot prides of lions resting on granite kopjes, giraffes browsing acacia trees, and vast herds of zebras and wildebeest stretching across the plains. Arrive at Seronera Wildlife Lodge in the late afternoon, check in, and enjoy dinner under the stars.
Today is dedicated to exploring the Serengeti's central Seronera Valley, renowned for the highest concentration of predators in Africa. Your expert guide will track cheetahs stalking prey, lion prides resting in the shade of kopjes, and hippos wallowing in the Seronera River. Enjoy a bush picnic lunch in the middle of the savannah, surrounded by panoramic views of the endless plains. The afternoon drive offers exceptional golden-hour photography and the chance to see leopards draped over acacia branches. The Seronera area is also prime territory for servals, bat-eared foxes, and over 500 bird species. Return to Seronera Wildlife Lodge for a sundowner on the terrace as the African sky ignites, followed by dinner.
After an early breakfast, enjoy a final morning game drive in the Serengeti, targeting the kopjes around Seronera where lions and leopards are frequently spotted. Then depart for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, ascending the Great Rift Valley escarpment through the stunning Ngorongoro Highlands. Stop at the famous Ngorongoro Crater viewpoint for panoramic photos of the 600m-deep caldera. In the afternoon, check into Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge, perched dramatically on the crater rim with sweeping views of the crater floor below. The afternoon is free to relax, visit a nearby Maasai village (optional, $20-30/pp), or enjoy the lodge's observation deck as the sun sets over the ancient volcano.
Your final day begins early with a 6:30 AM descent into the Ngorongoro Crater — a natural amphitheatre often called "Africa's Garden of Eden." The crater floor is home to over 25,000 large mammals including lions, black rhinos, elephants, buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, hyenas, hippos, and flocks of flamingos along Lake Magadi. Game viewing here is exceptionally dense thanks to the enclosed ecosystem and permanent water sources. Enjoy a picnic breakfast by a hippo pool before ascending the crater wall mid-morning. You will then begin the scenic drive back to Arusha, arriving at approximately 4:00-5:00 PM. Drop-off at your Arusha hotel or Kilimanjaro International Airport completes your safari adventure.
