Detailed breakdown of your journey
Depart Arusha at 7:00 AM and drive to Serengeti through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The journey takes approximately 5-6 hours with scenic stops at the crater viewpoint. Upon entering the Serengeti, begin your first game drive tracking the Great Migration herds. Depending on the season, you may witness the calving season (January-March) in the southern plains or the dramatic river crossings (July-October) in the northern regions. Your expert guide will position you for the best wildlife viewing opportunities. Enjoy a bush picnic lunch on the savannah before continuing to your camp.
Today is dedicated to following the Great Migration. The Serengeti ecosystem hosts over 1.5 million wildebeest, 200,000 zebras, and 500,000 Thomson's gazettes in their annual circular migration. Your guide will track the herds across the vast plains, positioning you for incredible photo opportunities. Witness predator-prey interactions as lions, cheetahs, and hyenas follow the migration. The morning game drive focuses on predator activity as hunters are most active at dawn. After a bush lunch, continue tracking the herds as they move across the landscape. Return to camp for dinner and overnight.
Game drive in the Ndutu area where the calving season occurs (December-March). During this period, over 8,000 wildebeest calves are born daily, attracting predators from across the ecosystem. The Ndutu area features short grass plains, alkaline lakes, and acacia woodlands that support diverse wildlife. Watch as newborn wildebeest take their first steps while lions and cheetahs stalk nearby. The Ndutu region also offers excellent birding with over 500 species recorded. Enjoy a picnic lunch by Lake Ndutu before continuing your game drive.
After an early morning game drive in Ndutu, depart for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The drive takes you through the stunning highlands with panoramic views of the Great Rift Valley. Stop at the crater viewpoint for photos of the 600m-deep caldera. Descend into the crater for a half-day game drive on the crater floor. The enclosed ecosystem supports approximately 25,000 large mammals including the endangered black rhino, lions, elephants, buffalo, and hippos. Enjoy a picnic lunch near the hippo pool before ascending the crater wall.
Enjoy an early morning game drive on the crater floor, targeting predator activity as lions and hyenas return from nighttime hunts. The morning light offers exceptional photography opportunities. After breakfast at the lodge, descend into the crater for a final game drive. Ascend by mid-morning and begin the scenic drive back to Arusha through the Ngorongoro Highlands. Arrive in Arusha by late afternoon for drop-off at your hotel or Kilimanjaro International Airport.
