Detailed breakdown of your journey

1

Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

You will be picked up at your hotel in Arusha at 07:00 AM and transferred to Tarangire National Park to start off your game viewing experience in this magnificent park which is famous for its large collection of baobab trees, spectacular large mammal population, and variety of bird species, not to mention one of the largest concentrations of elephants in the country. The park covers an area of 2,850 square kilometers and is named after the Tarangire River which runs through it. During the dry season, thousands of animals migrate from the Maasai Steppe to the Tarangire River, making it one of the best places to see wildlife. After your tour around the park, you will be transferred to your lodge in Karatu where you will be spending the night.

Day 2: Karatu to Serengeti National Park

After breakfast we head towards the Serengeti National Park, via the beautiful high lying farmland of Karatu and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Leaving the highlands behind, we descend into the heart of wild Africa – the Serengeti National Park – with its endless plains, rolling into the distance as far as the eye can see. We head to the central park area, known as the Seronera area, one of the richest wildlife habitats in the park, featuring the Seronera River, which provides a valuable water source to this area and therefore attracts wildlife well representative of most of the Serengeti's species. We arrive in time for lunch and enjoy an afternoon game drive in the Serengeti National Park. The Serengeti is home to over 3 million large mammals and 500 bird species. You may spot lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, buffalo, and vast herds of wildebeest and zebra.

Day 3: Full Day Serengeti Game Drive

Dawn is a good time to watch wildlife and so you will be up early to join an early morning game drive. You will return to the camp for breakfast before heading out for another game drive in the park. Here in the Seronera region you will often see wildebeests and zebras in close proximity of lions and other predators such as leopards and cheetahs. The Seronera River Valley is known as the "Big Cat Capital of Africa" due to its high concentration of predators. After a picnic lunch you will continue your journey towards the Ngorongoro conservation for overnight.

Day 4: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater & Return

After an early breakfast you will drive down the steep and narrow road that takes you into the crater. The slopes are forested but soon the landscape changes to savannah. Here the wildlife is just breathtaking and with a little luck you can observe the Big Five – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and leopard – in just a few hours. You should also see warthogs, wildebeests, zebras, hippos, and some of the more than 500 bird species of the area. The Ngorongoro Crater is the world's largest inactive, intact, and unfilled volcanic caldera. It measures 19 km in diameter, 610 meters deep, and covers an area of 260 square kilometers. After a morning dedicated to game viewing and a picnic lunch, you will leave the crater in the early afternoon to drive back to Arusha, where you will arrive in the early evening.
