Visa Requirements
Most nationalities can obtain a visa on arrival at the airport ($50-$100). You can also apply online through the Tanzania Immigration website. Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months.
Health
Yellow fever vaccination may be required if coming from an endemic country. Malaria prophylaxis is strongly recommended. Drink bottled or purified water. Carry basic first aid supplies.
Currency
The Tanzanian Shilling (TZS) is the local currency. US dollars are widely accepted for safari and tour payments. ATMs are available in major towns. Credit cards are accepted at larger hotels and lodges.
Cultural Etiquette
Tanzanians are warm and welcoming. Dress modestly when visiting villages. Ask permission before photographing people. Learn a few Swahili phrases – locals appreciate the effort.
Getting Around
Domestic flights connect major cities. Buses are affordable but slow. For safaris, 4x4 vehicles are essential. Self-drive is possible but not recommended for first-time visitors.
