Complete Guide to Climbing Kilimanjaro: Routes, Costs & Tips

Choosing the Right Route

Kilimanjaro offers seven official routes to the summit, each with unique characteristics. The Machame Route is the most popular, offering excellent scenery and acclimatization. The Marangu Route is the only one with hut accommodation. The Lemosho Route provides the highest success rates due to its longer itinerary.

Best Time to Climb

The best times are January-March and June-October. These periods offer favorable weather with clearer skies and minimal rainfall.

Physical Preparation

While no technical climbing experience is required, good physical fitness is essential. We recommend starting training at least 3-6 months before your climb.

What to Pack

Essential items include layered clothing, sturdy hiking boots, a sleeping bag rated to -15°C, trekking poles, and a daypack.

Costs and Budget

Climb costs range from $1,500 to $4,000 depending on the route, duration, and level of service.
